Truth: People Don’t Want to Hear It

Truth is a hard pill for some people to swallow. The truth is often painful if not completely devastating or even life altering. But the fact is…..

Truth is a necessity no matter how it makes you feel.

Truth often leaves casualties.

Truth can alter your thinking.

Truth can make or break your relationships.

Truth challenges you to face fears and insecurities or even demons.

Truth is tangible AND intangible.

Truth might even hurt you more than lies.

Don’t think these are true? Think of something you learned about from a family member or friend. I mean someone you are really close to, someone who holds your secrets. Then one day they drop a truth bomb on you. That is a feeling and moment that you never forget.

Better yet, let me explain it like this. In your group of super close friends who’s the one who ALWAYS ends up saying what EVERYONE else wants to say? Who’s fluent in sarcasm but you low-key know they mean what they say AND that they speak the truth? Who’s the one who pisses everyone off because they chose not to sugar coat a response when asked a question?

Wait I’m not done. Those fabulous family reunions and funerals ALWAYS include that one drunk ass relative who runs their mouth. It never fails, but some dark family secret or truth manages to sneak out every time. Think of the effects of that one often called “little” truth and how it made its way through your family or even the impact it left on your life. And FYI, I speak from experience because it’s how I found out I was adopted…at a family reunion, minding my own 10-year-old business when someone said, “You look just like yo mama Maggie.” Ummm the only problem was, that’s not who I knew as mama, but that’s a story for another time.

Sounds painful and harsh right? It can be but ask yourself this. Would you rather live your life around those who always tell you what you want to hear? Or do you want to be around someone who will be a million percent honest with you EVEN when what they say might crush you?

On the other hand, know that truth can easily be a force for change in your life exactly when you need it. So, remember….

Truth ALWAYS come out.

Truth makes you reflect.

Truth can be refreshing.

Truth can be empowering.

Truth can restore.

Truth can build trust.

Truth makes you accountable.

And I’ll leave you with this last little food for thought. Truth can be absolute or relative meaning it’s fact based or it can change depending on other influencers. In the end what you do with that truth is on you. Either you will dismiss it like it never existed or you will embrace it. For me personally, tell me the truth and if it hurts it hurts. But please know that I will embrace it like a comforting hug from my Auntie Daisy, drink me a glass of Malbec and proceed to be the ass-kicker I was raised to be. Now what about you?
