The Truth Shall Set You Free – Well Maybe

While thinking about what to write about “Truth” for this issue of Garden Spices I ran across this quotation from the movie “The Big Short” – “It ain’t what you know that gets you into trouble.  It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.” I began to giggle and then thoughts just came pouring out of me.

As most of you know who read my stuff in Garden Spices, you are aware that one of my many fields of study is in astrology.  It has been a Godsend to me on many occasions and certainly around this idea of “truth” versus what I believe to be true.  Simply put – and explained in a prior article – an astrology chart is formed using your date, time and place of birth to determine the layout of your chart which is comprised of a 360 degree circle and symbolically encompasses every area of our life on the planet.  Planets are distributed within that circle of life and they represent the action themes you have chosen for this lifetime.  Interaction from these planets to one another enhance or detract from your experiences.  Then, throughout your life,  you have experiences which can be represented by charts drawn for inward progressions, outward transits and other techniques too involved to explain in this article.  In a nutshell, what this all really means is there is a pattern and then an unfolding and a growth of energies and experiences to broaden what you know and who you are.

Whew – what a mouthful – so what does this have to do with truth.  Well everything in a way.  Even though you have a representation of a full circle of possibility, you really only have a limited experiential potential based upon your particular layout and how it unfolds.  While this seems like a really unfair limitation, in a psychology class in college I remember the instructor saying that human beings are incapable of being aware of every energy in and around them – we just don’t have the hardware to perceive everything at once and if we could we would probably go insane.  From my metaphysical understanding, we have chosen particular potential experiences before we come into this life that might be hampered by seeing the entire picture and knowing “the entire truth” – perhaps experience is the best teacher and not initially “knowing” is part of the adventure and the fun.

Where we get into trouble, is believing that we know the “truth”. I think we are really experiencing just a fraction of understanding – similar to the story of the blind men and the elephant.  This really doesn’t have to seriously hamper your life experience this time around, however.  Just knowing that you aren’t supposed to know everything was a relief to me.  It also helped me to begin to concentrate on how I could enhance the experiences I had chosen.  So, what would that look like?

As a life/health coach, I have learned and teach many techniques and strategies to facilitate inner and outer growth.  Other coaches and teachers are also into abundance these days.  Books, classes, travel, volunteering are just a few of many endless possibilities.  May the ones you are drawn to magically open to you through your intention.   May it be so – ashay and amen!
