My introduction to Erca Adjei was the composition of her textured and youthful images. It must be something in the water or Ghana, but this Ghanisn woman speaks their language through her art - style, dimension, vibrancy. - and we are here for it in Garden Spices. Gate Open . - Victorine
Artist Statement
My name is Erica Adjei, and I am an artist based in Accra, Ghana. I come from Larteh Akuapim in the Eastern Region, But I was nurtured in the vibrant community of Accra Newtown located in the Greater Accra region. My artistic journey began in Akyem Sekyere S.D.A School in the Eastern region, where I delved into the realms of visual art.
My studies encompassed Picture Making, Leatherwork, Economics, and General knowledge of art (G.K.A). These formative experiences laid the foundation for my passion for the arts and the unique blend of techniques I bring to my
work. Being rooted in both the bustling city of Accra and the serene landscapes of the Eastern region, my art is a fusion of urban vibrancy and the cultural richness of my heritage.
Through the lens of recycling waste papers, I address environmental concerns in my community while celebrating Africa's energy, positivity, and diverse beauty. My artworks are a testament to the merging of these experiences, creating a visual narrative.
Looking at the diversity of Africa, especially our way of dressing in a unique way. This artwork is one of the fancy ways of dressing in Africa, with the arrangement of waste papers (recycling)from my community on canvas to show how modern fashion has both.
