This Celine bag will not be on a runway. It’s a cake!! This gem was created by the Owner and Cake Artist of CakEffect, Komeh Ottison. This purse is only one of the many designs found in the “little cake shop with a grand effect.”

Once upon a time, there was a little girl who loved art.  One day she grew up and decided that she wanted to be an artist. So she mastered the art of baking and converted the art from her canvas to cake.” – from the CakEffect website.

Ottison is an artist.  She has a degree in Commercial and Advertising Art, as well as a Law degree, but her passion for art has always found her painting.  Oil is her medium.  Her work has been exhibited in a number of galleries, including The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute.

Ottison continues to express her artwork through every cake design. Ottison learned to bake cakes from her Mother, Naomi Truman, “and television.” Her Mom encouraged her to put her design talents to work as a designer/cake artist to render value from her artwork. Her Mom also made sure that the products from CakEffect tasted as good as they looked.  Ottison began baking cakes in her home in 2009, and opened the storefront in Homewood, AL in 2011. Ottison’s customers range from all over the country and include Stephen A. Smith, ESPN Sportscaster, Marcel Dareus, from the Buffalo Bills, and Pat Lewis, from The Crystals.  Ottison has also been featured on the TV show, Absolutely Alabama.

“CakEffect is the little cake shop with a grand effect.

They do custom cakes for many events or occasions.”

two-dimensional and three-dimensional cakes. CakEffect provides beautiful,

delicious cakes to many satisfied customers each year. We have an association

of artists and bakers who are capable of meeting personal and corporate needs. “

So reads the Homepage of their website inviting the world to partake creative delights, including a variety of cupcakes, pound cakes, as well as the many “story” cakes.  Ottison notes, “CakEffect is also a volunteer “Sugar Angel” for Icing Smiles. Icing Smiles is a nonprofit organization that provides custom celebration cakes and other treats to families impacted by the critical illness of a child.”  Ottison looks forward to the growth of her business, and aspires to teach a class one day.  “People have told me I need to do a reality show,” but she promises there would be “no drama.”
