Garden Spices asked the question,

"What does inclusion mean to you?"

Tonya Yeargain

Lately...Politics has been the subject matter that has intrigued me immensely. The DNC was so energetic...as my son and daughter, ages 56 and 57, worked the DNC and called me at home as I watched on TV a #million times. Giving me all their exciting info on who was there.... so on and so on. They sent me pictures they took with a few of the Journalists there. This was a great Historic event. The last time Chicago had a Democratic Convention was 50 years ago.

The momentum of the Convention kept me interested and overjoyed. I'm glad my kids experience such an event!

For me, "Inclusion" is the power of the people (marginalized communities who historically have battled against societal exclusion) because where there are more people, there is more power. Some of these socioeconomic groups enduring systemic neglect are (but are not limited to) BIPOC, people with disabilities, LGBTQIA+, and non-Christian faiths.

Inclusion would entail satisfactory accommodations for All genders, ethnicities, religious beliefs, and disabilities. If there's no inclusivity in (human or civil rights) movement spaces, then diversity or representation holds no weight. Those areas of operation become of less value.

Inclusion is feeling like you belong. I am proud to work for a company that believes in diversity, inclusion, and the idea of feeling like you belong. This can be tough for some, but I am very blessed in this area. Great topic for sure, Ms. Vicki

To me, inclusion means that once your children have married and started their family, you are still included in life events, etc.
