My Life Is A-OK!

Isn’t it wonderful that life itself gives you the chance to rejoice and delight in all things? Sure, some of the things are difficult but once you back off and see it for what it truly is, there is still the opportunity to be glad. You may want to ask, “Rev. Bobby, what are the things that delight you about life? What brings you joy?” And I would tell you first and foremost that I delight in the fact that you love me enough to care.

Well here goes, some of the things that bring joy in my life. Mom made 90, and beside the Alzheimers, she has nothing else wrong. My baby sister, A Spelman woman, is her caretaker. What a blessing. And being a Spelman woman, like Mommy, she is very creative. Wrote something that generated a plaque of her and Mommy that hangs in the halls of Congress, a featured article on caregivers in AARP’s magazine and is writing a book on caregiving in the process. My middle sister, Ms. Spelman herself, has overcome some health challenges and is flitting around good as ever.

The kids? Well, the eldest daughter is married and running her businesses with her entrepreneur husband. Son is a webmaster that also shoots and edits video, works on a web series, acts, is an audio genius, and is a photographer. Baby girl works in a school for the physically challenged and is spending this Christmas in Daytona Florida providing a Christmas experience for orphans and foster children. Right up her alley. My heart is full.

My best friend is the Executive Director of X-Tend-A-Hand Ministry in Chicago, impacting and making better lives for many of the homeless in Chicago. She also has adopted a school in the Chicago Public School System that has the largest population of homeless children. Then there is me. I love all of the wonderful things that my ministry has me involved in. I cherish my relationships from the neighborhood I grew up in, Military School, my Morehouse/Spelman experiences, IBM, and those established during the years of doing church. Oh, how joyous that makes me.

If we were to take the time to step back, breathe and see things for that which they are instead of that which we want them to be, we all would realize that living life, just in itself, fills our hearts with joy. Enjoy Your Joy! Peace
