My Equilibrium

Rev. Bobby

Being a Minister requires one to be ever prepared to function in that role where others are concerned. You never know when an event will happen where you must be the voice of reason or bring comfort in the midst of what can be said to be tragic conditions. In counsel, it is so much hurt and pain that people are experiencing in their lives, that it takes a special kind of energy and perspective to show them that the pain and hurt is not a permanent condition. You, in your role as Minister must sometimes dig deeper than that which you think you have. You must come up with something more.

In digging deep, sometimes you feel you have nothing. You feel that you have been left on your own to attempt to deal with the current situation before you. What do you do? How do you increase the depths to which you must dig so often in this business? How are you able to conduct yourself in a manner that supplies support and a foundation for others to begin their healing process? How do you stay balanced?

Then, on top of all the counsel, teaching, and preaching that is a part of your life as a Minister, you got your stuff. You have bills to pay, relationships to manage, day to day life issues to deal with, not to mention the things you make up in your head. This life many times leaves you feeling empty and gasping for air in a metaphorical way. Where do you go? Who do you turn to? What do you do? Can what you do in these situations help others?

Well, I happen to believe that what I do in trying times, under less than the best conditions can not only help one to stay balanced, but also help others to maintain their cool. The activity that I personally engage in to maintain my equilibrium is to study. That’s right, study. Now what I study is my books and other informative materials that feed my spiritual man self. I have to bring myself in balance in spirit first. Once I do that, everything else falls in place. I have found over the years that whenever I’m off balance, whenever I’m out of sync, whenever I’m off kilter, it’s time to study.

Once I engage in that activity, it restoreths my soul just like it says in the 23rd Psalm. My total beingness is refreshed.  I can breathe and relax a bit, so I can be ready for whatever comes next. Trust me, there is always whatever comes next in my life. It comes, and it comes hard and fast. But to keep myself sane and to manage my equilibrium so that I am in a position to serve, I study, and I study hard. The study always lifts me, restores me and supports me in all that I do. And I do a lot! Peace.
