Saunf is a very versatile spice which is used in many type of preparation for exotic dishes. Saunf also known as fennel seeds are used as a mouth freshener in India. It is called Mukhawas. It is summer for a few weeks before it gets cold. Summer also means that it is time for chilled drinks. Chilled not just by ice but by nature too. Especially for those hot afternoons. Made with fennel seeds this thandai (cold drink) will be a hit at your Summer BBQ.
Ingredients
2 tsp fresh lemon juice
Salt and sugar, to taste
1 cup crushed fennel seeds
1 tsp Jal Jeera powder (You can get it from any Indian store)
Method
Pre-soak fennel seeds for 3 hrs. Boil them for 3 minutes and let it cool.
Grind with sugar and strain in a jug.
Add salt, lemon juice and Jal Jeera powder.
Sprinkle some fennel seeds when freezing water to make ice cubes.
Serve them in glasses.
