Hair is the bane of most women's existence. However, finding a privately owned, full-purpose, Black-owned store is hard. How fortunate are we to find a beautiful store with everything needed for all hair, plus some clothing items, right here in Florence, AL - About Your Hair.
About Your Hair caters to the diverse needs of all women but provides many products exclusive to Black women. Beyond providing hair goods and accessories, this venue has an essential element for business: a warm and welcoming proprietor, Nevon Thompson.
Thompson is a native of the Shoals area of Alabama, and her family includes a husband, three children, and seven grandchildren. "Make sure to mention my grandmother, Lillian Thompson. She's 100 years old and has been one of my greatest inspirations." The Customer Service is in Thompson's soul.
Guided through prayer, in 2016, Thompson opened her first store in Sheffield, AL. A hair product venue that was small in scale and in an obscure location, the first About Your Hair closed during the pandemic. However, the vision from God was set. After working at a job for two years, and with the support of her husband (he also has a cabinet business), the second About Your Hair manifested. And this time, it is as God had shown her.
The new store is in a prominent location on Darby Drive with plenty of space to expand the product line, and while Thompson thanks God for the new space's success, she plans to expand. "I hope to have locations in the Athens/Huntsville areas," Thompson indicated. "And they will include even more cultural hair products."
Her expectation? " To serve and supply beauty to everyone."
