Doing For Myself

I heard her mules hit the slate steps, and seconds later, she was through the door. She walked straight into the dining room where I was eating and said, “I came home with the express intent to ask you how you stay so peaceful? I don’t have to ask you now.” Upon further investigation, her evening had fallen apart, and she was pretty bugged. Being one working avidly on her Spiritual growth and such things, she was irritated at herself being bugged and wanted some input from me. As she entered the house, she came upon me eating my dinner by candlelight, complete with a glass of wine. I do this for myself to stay balanced and peaceful.

One of the other activities that I participate in to help keep mental clarity is swimming. I love to swim. When I lived in Florida and would swim in The Gulf of Mexico, I felt as if the amniotic fluid of God surrounded me.

My exercise consists of a swim, whirlpool, and sauna at LA Fitness. The thing is that I attain a peaceful state in the same way; so many issues and concerns work out as I pull my laps. This exercise has been instituted in my life for quite some time—over 50 Years.

Now, when I was working at IBM, I used to need mental adjustments regularly. I’d get frustrated, take a walk and go buy myself a suit. Nothing makes a man feel better. Up on the little stoop getting measured and watching the tailor put the pins in so he can do the alterations. Turning around and viewing yourself from all angles in the mirror is one self-empowering experience. It was what I needed at the moment to ensure that my mental state remained healthy. My wife would just shake her head, but she did understand.

Then there is the oldest tried and true method of gaining mental clarity for me, a nap. When I was a kid, the whole neighborhood would look for me, and I would be upstairs, sleeping in my room. It just seems to be a way where everything comes up off me. I’ve had responsibility throughout my life, and sometimes I get overwhelmed. A nap would come through for me every time. I’ll bet a dollar to a dime; this method is coming through for me again as soon as I finish this article.

Now, I do a plethora of other things for my mental health, like take a break from the news and social media. I don’t too much listen to what people say because I’ve found that people can say some crazy stuff. Best for that to stay with them. But overall, I have been blessed to come up with innovative ways to help me stay somewhat sane, usually in the moment. Peace.
