Artistic Baths

You want a life lesson?  Wait for a bathroom to be renovated.  Janice Clayton Mayes was on a cruise when her guest bathroom was under construction, but she was front and center for the transformation of her master bath.  Mayes now enjoys two bathrooms that are magazine ready, and they were designed and executed by her two sons, Artist, Matthew Mayes and his partner, Brian Jewell.

“I was going to downsize and wanted to update my home to sell it,” indicates Mayes. “I saw a bathroom in Restoration Hardware and loved the vanity.  It was too costly (for my needs).  Matt said he could build a vanity.  He went on Craig’s List to find a dresser, found the hardware, and I paid $20 for my vanity!”  Mayes thought she wanted light coloring for the baths, but she deferred to her artistic son who installed a palette of green, white, and grey.  The tile punctuates the design.

Whether as a back splash for the sink or edging the floor and shower, the sleek mosaic tiles frame the large-scale tiles in the master bath.

The sizable cabinets are a luxury, and the calming palette of grey, along with the black, and white invites a Zen-like comfort to the space.  Spa-like accessories are comforting for mind, body, and spirit. Plenty of storage with the chic grey cabinetry, which compliments the overall vibe of this bath.

“Matt and Brian, my care boys! Luv them dearly!”

It is no wonder these bathrooms are masterfully designed, Janice’s son, Matthew is an artist, and Brian is a master craftsman.  Both Matt and Brian, not only designed the space, they also executed the work, making sure all details were carefully appointed.  “They came from Birmingham to stay with me while they worked, I fed them, and two weeks later, my bathroom was completed.”
